A word from our CEO

“For everything to stay the same, everything must change”
Giuseppe Tomasi de Lampedusa “The Leopard”, Sicilia, 1958

Cellulose Acetate has been at the cutting edge of innovation for over 100 years. It has been part of aviation, cinema, synthetic fibres, plastics and many more fields. Today, its major application is in cigarette filters.

Cerdia, formerly known as Rhodia Acetow, was one of the pioneers in the industry of Cellulose Acetate and built its first industrial plant in France, in 1912. Other plants followed in Germany, Brazil, the USA, and in Russia.

Since then, the technical know-how and expertise in acetylation has been at the heart of Cerdia and as a world leader in this field, our teams are developing innovative applications and processes that will define Cellulose Acetate in the future. That future is based on a sustainable raw material that is environmentally friendly from certified forestry, through production and biodegradable disposal. Our innovation will have to respond to the growing needs for safer tobacco products, also it will bring diversification opportunities like the Accoya® acetylation wood.

The recent acquisition by Blackstone will allow us to reinforce our customer focus.

Together with our 1300 employees worldwide, we have the expertise, the ambition and more than 100 years of an innovation driven and customer oriented culture. This is our pride and our commitment as “Cerdianer”.
